The Rutgers Center for Gender, Sexuality, Law and Policy, in partnership with the Eric Neisser Public Interest Program, welcomes Jessica Clarke, Walter V. Schaefer Visiting Professor of Law, University of Chicago Law School and Associate Professor of Law and Vance Opperman Research Scholar, University of Minnesota Law School.

Professor Jessica Clarke’s research focuses on issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Her work has appeared in publications including the Yale Law Journal, California Law Review, and Duke Law Journal. Her most recent article, “Protected Class Gatekeeping,” was selected for presentation at the peer-reviewed Yale/Stanford/Harvard Junior Faculty Forum and is forthcoming in the New York University Law Review. In 2015, her article “Inferring Desire” won the Dukeminier Award, which recognizes the best legal scholarship on sexual orientation and gender identity published in the previous year. She was named the Stanley V. Kinyon Teacher of the Year for 2015-16.

Professor Clarke teaches employment discrimination, civil procedure, and statutory interpretation. She joined the University of Minnesota faculty as an associate professor in June 2011, after spending two years as an Associate-in-Law at Columbia Law School. Professor Clarke received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2003 and her B.A., summa cum laude, from Whitman College in 2000. After law school, she clerked for the Honorable Rosemary S. Pooler of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit and the Honorable Shira A. Scheindlin of the Southern District of New York. She also worked as an associate in the New York office of Covington & Burling LLP.

Professor Clarke is currently a visiting professor at the University of Chicago Law School.
